Velvet and Minky Fabric Embossing

Splitcoaststampers is featuring my Embossing on Fabric video as this weeks tutorial!   You can see the full tutorial including written directions by clicking HERE.  Also there is a gallery where you can post your fabric embossed project and see others projects too!

I have two more examples I have not yet posted.

This one has two colors of pastel Minky fabric.  Both fabrics are embossed with the Rays of Light stamp.

I cut a frame in the front of the card with the Deckled Rectangles dies.  The fabrics are mounted on another layer of cardstock cut just a smidgeon smaller and mounted behind the frame.  Adhesive tape works really well to hold the fabrics in place.  Just be sure that you have them in the position you want the first time.

The butterfly and flower are from the Softly Sketched set.  I very very lightly brushed the image with water after stamping with Gorgeous Grape classic ink to blend the ink.

The other project is stamped on velvet.

The black velvet is a bit tricky to photograph but the IRL it is pretty cool.   On such a dark color a bolder stamp would show even better.

Hope to see your projects on Splitcoaststampers!!!

Fall has been just beautiful here in Michigan and there is an abundant crop of locally grown apples this year.   The farm markets and stores have so many varieties to pick from.  I have made several batches of yummy apple butter.  Apple crisp and apple pie are on the to-do list too.    So it is perfect that our stamp set this time is APPLE HARVEST!

I had a great time with this set and have been playing around with a new technique- MELTED  CRAYON BLENDING.   I started by heating the cardstock with a small iron then quickly coloring with a crayon and blending with a napkin.  Lightest colors are laid down first with progressively darker colors added on top.

The results were really pretty!

I love how rich the colors are.

A 3D framed picture of lovely apples for fall decorating.

I filmed a tutorial.  This is really fun and I hope you give it a try!

Supplies for these projects:

Stamps:  Apple Harvest
Paper:   Basic White Thick cardstock, Oh Holy Night Designer Series Paper,  Copper Clay Cardstock
Ink:  Granite Grey and Old Olive Classic Ink,
Accessories:     In-Color Jute Trim
Non- SU!:  Crayola crayons, paper towel, napkin, iron and ironing surface

These are the crayons I used:

I dumped them out and sorted them into color families so I could see the color gradients easily.   (I kept the neons ones separate.)

Stamp Review Crew: Earthen Textures

https://stampreviewcrew.blogspot.com/2017/10/beautiful-you.html

Recently I used one of the images from the In the Moment stamp set to embroider a small project.   I enjoyed that so much that I perused the catalog for other sets that I thought would be fun to embroider.   The Earthen Textures seemed like a great choice.  This time I challenged myself to see if I could use all SU materials for the embroidery.

First I stamped the image on light cloth.  (I have a video of the In the Moment embroidery project including tips for stamping on fabric.  It can be found HERE.)

I used the Natural 1/4" Wavy Trim to embroidery the wheat.  I like that wispy fibers of the trim look like the beard on a wheat stalk.  To deconstruct the trim I used scissors to clip the central thread holding the trim together.  Then it was easy to pull the outer threads apart.  This resulted in four strands of nicely textured thread.

This picture shows the placement of the stamped images and the wheat once it was stitched.

For the vase I used In-Color Jute Trim.   This has three strands of fibers twisted together.   I untwisted the strands which resulted in a lovely waved fiber strand.  I found that it was best to stitch with a fairly short length thread so that it did not fray too much and the waves were prominent.

To make it look like the vase was siting on something I added five long horizontal stitches.    For this I again used the Natural Wavy Trim but this time I used the center strand.  Instead of clipping the central strand as in the second photo above I clipped the outer strands preserving the center strand.  This is a very soft and pretty strand that looks like it is chain stitched.

I throughly enjoyed making this and have a few more stamp sets that I think would be pretty stitched so you may see more embroidery projects!

We are adding an extra bonus hop this month and our focus is the background stamp Rays of Light.  This is the second time our crew is highlighting this great stamp.   So after you have circled this current hop you can click HERE to see even more wonderful ideas!

The background for my project is fabric.  I used my iron to heat set the Rays of Light image on minki fabric.  Areas are depressed or "debossed" creating the design.  The result is a soft wonderfully textured background.

The kitty, flowers and sentiment are from the Warm Welcome set (an Online Exclusive).  To make the kitten appear to look out the window, I inked just the edges with a Stampin' Write Marker omitting the face and legs.

Below is the video of how I did this fun project!

Our stamp set this time is the beautiful In The Moment stamp set.   I thought the line art images would be pretty done with embroidery.   I learned to embroider from my mom and grandmother and still enjoy this relaxing hobby.  It was fun to combine two of my hobbies for this project!

I stamped the image on light colored cloth and then
used the lines as guidelines for stitching.

Her hair is done so the strands are free.
I was even able to keep the pulled back style with a little half ponytail!

This was so much fun to do!  Now I want to try embroidering with other stamp sets.  I think some of the flower sets would be lovely!  Below is the video with all the how-tos!

Stamp Review Crew: Sea Turtle

Our stamp set this time is Sea Turtle.   We have a very small hop this session- it is a busy time for everyone!  The great news is that this set will carry over to the new catalog so we will see more of this set in the future.

My daughter-in-love and I had a wonderful afternoon of crafting together and we both made cards with this pretty stamp set.

My card is done in blue tones:

Two step stamping and stamping off create the color variations.

And my DIL's is done in greens:

Adding ink with a sponge dauber to the stamp creates the color
variation on the turtle and black embossing really makes this pop!

Stamp Review Crew: Taco Fiesta

Hello and welcome to the latest Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop!   We have an extra bonus hop this month. There are just so many great stamp sets we wanted to squeeze in another one!

If you click on the banner below you will be taken to the Stamp Review Crew website which has a complete list crew members and you can see all the past hops as well.

https://stampreviewcrew.blogspot.com/2017/10/beautiful-you.html

Our stamp set this time is the very fun Taco Fiesta set.  We have several March birthdays in our family and the funny sentiments were just the ticket.   I needed to photograph these outside to get enough light and as you can see it was a snowy day.  Thankfully that snow has melted and and we have signs of spring now!

The first card has most of the images directly stamped on the white background.  A few were stamped strategetically so they would be behind the polka dot layer.  A few more images were fussy cut to layer on top.  To make the fluffy embellishment I frayed some white bakers twine and dabbed it with the tip of a Poppy Parade Stampin' Blend.

The next card has the images stamped on the inside of the card that peek through the windows on the card front.  The second part of the sentiment is hidden until the card is opened.

The tacos on the gift bag below and the bowl of guacamole and chips on the card above are done with masking.  I think masking is a great technique.  I just have to remind myself that the image in the foreground is the first thing that is stamped then it is easy peasy!

I'm so glad you have visited today!  Please click on the buttons below to continue with the hop next.  Up next is our wonderful hop organizer Holly!
