Stamp Review Crew: Apron of Love

Hello!  Stamp Review Crew members have a mini blog hop this session for the sweet stamp set Apron of Love.   We have a wonderful website with an archive of past hops that are chock full of inspiration.  You can access it by clicking on the banner below.

I have two very different projects to share using the Apron of Love stamp set.

The first is inspired by the Retro Modernism style of art.  One of our past vacations was to Palm Springs and we really had fun going through the art galleries and stores.   I thought it would be fun to see if I could make something in this style with the rectangle stamp from the set.

Bermuda Bay, Pool Party and Calypso Coral are the perfect retro color combo!

Since the stamps in this set are photopolymer I could see through the stamp to come up with an over-lapping pattern.   Then came the fun of choosing colors and filling in the spaces.  I love the way it turned out!

The second project is the one I had in mind when I bought this set.  My daughter is an AVID baker. She has a special notebook that she keeps with recipes that she has created or has adapted in her own way.  This notebook is a treasure-trove of goodness!  I wanted to make an insert for the front pocket to surprise her.

I gave it to her today and she was delighted!

This will go inside the clear pocket on the front of the binder
to keep it from getting splattered when the chef is at work!

I do not always buy the coordinating thinlit dies but for
this set it really is a must. The detail in the dies really enhance the stamps
and are so much more detailed than I could ever cut by hand.

I put the die on the gingham DSP at a 45 degree angle
 to create the bias pattern on the apron.

The little flowers are so darn cute!  I used the retired tee shirt die
--too perfect for this as she has a bunch of cooking tee shirts!

I love her little handwritten changes.   Her creations are amazing!!

Hoppy Birthday

Light-hearted birthday cards are my favorite to send.  I used the sale-a-bration stamp set So Happy Together combined with the birthday cake from the Amazing Life set to make a fun little scene.  

A quick scribble of alcohol marker for the grass and sky complete the scene.

I pulled out a couple of past SAB sets for this one.

Stamp Review Crew: Butterfly Gala Edition

Time for another edition of the Stamp Review Crew!  On the first and third Monday of each month Crew members share their personal take on a chosen stamp set.  This time it the pretty Butterfly Gala set.  What better time to bring out the butterflies and think (wishfully!) of spring?  Past hops are archived on our SRC blog which you can see any time of year by clicking on the banner below.

I decided upon a circle spinner card to add some movement to the lovely butterflies.

Originally I planned to add more embellishments.   I pulled out the matching organdy ribbon and flower sequins which looked very inviting but I ended up liking the simplicity of just the gingham paper and sentiment.

The bright colors of the Stampin' Blends are all the decoration needed for this one!

Stamp Review Crew: A Little Wild Edition

Hello and welcome to a Stamp Review Crew blog hop that is a little wild (and a lot adorable)!  We are featuring the incredibly cute stamp set  A Little Wild.

I think this is a record for me to have participated in three hops in a row!  We had incredibly cold weather in the Midwest this past week.  Everything shut down meaning a bit more time to get some stamping done.  Plus there have been several new babies.  Perfect timing!

This set has images for the front and back views of the critters.  I wanted to take advantage of that and decided to make an offset accordion fold card so the little guys could be seen from both sides

The base is 5-1/2" X 12", scored at 4-1/4", 7-1/4" and 10-1/4"

Coloring with Stampin' Blends is so relaxing and I throughly enjoyed using them with the By the Bay Sale-a-bration stamp set.

The main image seemed a bit intimidating at first but was once I started it was very easy.  Just use a very light touch.  The results are remarkable in person!

The background layer is printed vellum from the Floral Romance
Speciality DSP and adds a very special elegance.

Stamp Review Crew: Forever Lovely Edition

Welcome to the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop!  It has been ages since I have been able to stamp and I am delighted to be participating in this wonderful group again.   All of the Crew's past hops are archived on the Stamp Review Crew website.   I have been enjoying catching up a few that I missed- what a wealth of creativity!   You can click on the banner below to see them too!

   

This edition of the SRC is focused on the delicate stamp set Forever Lovely.   It is one Stampin' Up's Distinktive stamp sets which create detail and color variations with just one stamp.

I used the Distinctive stamp with multiple flowers and the corresponding stamp which adds all the little background pieces.  I inked up just a portion each to create a lovely focal point.

The flowers were stamped with the darker Gorgeous Grape ink
and the background was stamped with lighter Highland Heather.

Even after 12 years as a Stampin' Up demonstrator I am still delightfully surprised when I discover how nicely SU products coordinate --even those that are not particularly designed as a suite.   I had two such moments when making this card.  

The Forever Lovely stamp set is part of the All My Love suite which has beautiful Designer Series Paper specifically designed to coordinate. But look how nicely it also goes with the Botanical Butterfly paper which is part of the free goodies for Sale-a-Bration!

The roses on the DSP are just perfect for this stamp.

The second little delight was discovering how the Sale-a-Bration organdy ribbon layers over the 1/4" Mini Striped Ribbon.  

The stripes of Gorgeous Grape peeking through add a nice little contrast
of pattern and rich color to the delicate organdy.

Use a tiny bit of Tombo glue at the edges to hold the ribbons together.

Paper Wreath Tutorial

I am delighted to have another tutorial featured on SplitcoastStampers!   These paper wreaths are so pretty made with double sided paper and are quite easy to do.  You just need a sharp blade in your paper trimmer.   By the time I had made prototypes and finished wreaths for both tutorials my trimmer had quite a workout! 

It is really fun to see how the alternating paper lengths create the rings of the wreath.  I also varied the width of the cut strips on the three wreaths.    For this centerpiece I made cuts at 3/8" intervals.

I liked the effect of using striped paper.
 It would be cute to fill the center container with candy canes.

A wider cut gives a more rustic look.  The strips on this fall wreath are cut at 1/2" intervals.

I think one like this in bright spring colors with a Easter themed image would be pretty.

A slimmer cut gives a more delicate look to the wreath.  The strips for this one are 1/4".  You do need to be more careful when cutting such thin strips but it is worth it!
